Black History Month 2019

The theme of HuffPost’s Black History Month coverage for 2019, “We Built This”, focused on reclaiming narratives and redefining American history as being fundamentally Black History. To drive the visual identity for this, I turned to photographer Kris Graves, whom I’d met at a photo industry event. The photographic vision for “We Built This” is an iteration and evolution of one of Graves’s personal projects, where the core tenet is for each participant to have complete agency over lighting schemes and their representation, resulting in a project of true collaboration and equality.
